Robins Latest Obsession

We all get obsessive about specific cars or brands, we probably all convince ourselves and our partners that we need a specific car - because of X.

The reality is we don’t need a car because of X - X is what we use to justify what we want and X changes a lot - depending on what we desire at the time.

My Dad used to say - the only good reason for getting a new car is because you want one - he was right - we don’t need to be changing our cars so often and we don’t need large engines, fiendishly good looks and taught handling.

But we want it - and thats OK.

I feel a bit guilty about this write up that Robin has done - he has become obsessed with a particular car (not a classic rare car - just a car) and has gone and bought 3 - two for him and one for Chris. One had monster mileage at 120k too. I clearly wasn’t a fan and I fear that my derision of his decision making, forced him to wax lyrical about them in this blog.

When I did have drive in one recently, I changed my mind as it drives like a bigger car with a very capable power-train and sophisticated suspension. Definitely worthy of the positive write up on here and when you consider its a small car with between 220 and 350 BHP depending on which model you get - the stats back up Robin’s faith in the car.

Over to Robin - I think he is trying to get the prices up as he is so well invested:-

I have been watching a specific car for quite some time, unsure if I liked it or not.
It started to grow on me, especially Its looks and then after looking into its breeding, I was amazed to note that it was so well engineered by two of the big automotive giants and built in Germany [Daimler-Benz & Chrysler].
Not telling yet what this vehicle is, only to say its a 2 seater [Its a Crossfire]

Used prices (at present) are unbelievably low, cheaper than a modern push bike, but WHY !!!!
We don't want the world to find out yet.....[They know Robin]

I decided I needed to acquire one ,to test it out & compare with my Audi Quattro T.T..
After searching the normal avenues, auto-trader. ebay etc, I found one locally, a one lady owner vehicle, a convertible auto in metallic blue.
I could not believe the amazing condition, the smooth drive, gentle auto change electric hood ,hydraulic rear wing - all the mod cons.
I was hooked... paid the asking price, no wheeler dealer haggling on price [Sucker]
What a drive, it compared well with my Aston DB9 and easily compared with the T.T.

Not only was I hooked but have become addicted [Obsessed]

I now have a one owner 70000 ml Convertible (2005), just stunning, a 2006 coupe 9000 mls (As new) 6 speed manual...a 2006 coupe auto 118000 mls as my daily driver, its smooth as silk to drive.

They also made an extra fast model (AMG) Still searching for that one...
You can upgrade them if you're a boy racer or attention seeker.. just add the gull wing doors, but do be warned don't lose your keys as you cant get replacement, despite they only finishing production in 2008.

So keep this secret to yourself for the moment...while prices are stupidly low [Too Late].
SO WHAT IS IT, that has me addicted, maybe the ultra smooth Mercedes 3.2 engine a proven and reliable unit ?

Its the whole package, the ride, the Marmite uniqueness...
What am I talking about... [I already told them]

THE CHRYSLER/MERCEDES CROSSFIRE (2003/2008) [it was never called Chrysler/Mercedes]
